The Story of Sumangala Steel & Gift House

The story of Sumangala began in 1966 with the vision, hard work, and determination of my father, Mr. C. K. Sreedharan.

He started his career as a skilled copper vessel craftsman and later worked as a laborer in shops at Kothamangalam and Thodupuzha during his early thirties. Through years of dedication and perseverance, he gained valuable experience in the trade and nurtured a dream of owning a business of his own.

In 1966, he turned that dream into reality by establishing a small retail shop in the rural town of Puthencruz. The shop was originally named Sumangala Vessels Mart.

In those early days, business was built through personal relationships and trust. My father would travel to nearby temples, churches, festivals, and local events, setting up temporary stalls and serving customers wherever opportunities arose. His journeys often took him far beyond Puthencruz, reaching places such as Ramapuram near Pala. This tradition continued successfully for many years, until around 1990.

A new chapter began in 1994 when reconstruction of the original shop commenced. During this period, the business was temporarily shifted to Puthencruz town to continue serving customers without interruption.

In 2000, I joined my father in the business. Together, we expanded the store by adding an upstairs section and introducing a wide range of trending gift items alongside our traditional products. This expansion brought new momentum to the business and enabled us to continuously add products that met the changing needs of our customers.

In 2017, after the sad demise of my father, I took full responsibility for the business. With deep respect for his legacy, I renovated and modernized the store while preserving the values and principles on which it was founded.

Today, as we move forward in the digital era, it is time for Sumangala Steel & Gift House to embrace social media and connect with a new generation of customers while continuing to serve the community that has supported us for six decades.
